Travelling to or from Downham Market Railway Station?
We’ve put together a few tips to help you plan your journey and find your way around the station, as well as a few things we can do to help if the trains aren’t quite running as planned.

There are two platforms at Downham Market Rail Station:
Platform 1 is for southbound trains from King’s Lynn, heading to Littleport, Ely, Waterbeach, Cambridge and London King’s Cross. This is the side of the station with the ticket office.
Platform 2 is for northbound trains from London King’s Cross, heading to Watlington and King’s Lynn.

The taxi rank is in the main car park next to Platform 1. Taxis are not permitted to wait in the small car park next to Platform 2 as it’s too small and we’d get in the way.
There is no footbridge or underpass between the two platforms: you’ll need to use the pavement to cross over the level crossing in front of the station. There is step-free access between the two platforms..
If you haven’t booked a taxi, there may be one in the rank. This is where you’ll be able to find any of our taxis that have not been booked. Please note that not many taxis use the rank, so there may be a wait. If you’re after a taxi for a long journey, it’s advisable to book in advance.

The level crossing barriers at the station will come down up to three minutes before a train arrives.
There is no way to cross between Platforms 1 and 2 when the barriers are down, so don’t leave it till the last moment if you need to be on the other side.
If the barriers stay down after a train has arrived, it’s likely there is another one on the way – we have several freight trains throughout the day.
If your train is delayed, we’ll do our best to work around it. If the train you’re planning to catch has been delayed, we may contact you to see if you want to adjust your booking. And if we’re picking you up from the station and you’ve been delayed, we’ll do our best to work around that and let you know how we can help you finish your journey. Please contact us if you’re at all concerned about arriving late at the station..
If there’s severe disruption affecting services to and from the station, it can sometimes be very difficult to work out which trains are running and when they’ll arrive. If you find yourself on a different train to the one you were expecting, get in touch and tell us where you are. Similarly, if you’re waiting at another station and you’re not sure when the train will arrive, get in touch. We’ll do our best to work out what’s going on and let you know how we can help you complete your journey.
We’ll do our best to help
If you book a journey to or from the railway station, we’ll ask you which train you’ll be taking, so that we can track it and make plans if there’s a problem. If you’re making a longer journey with rail connections before you reach Downham Market station, we may ask you about those as well. If your train is only a few minutes late, don’t worry about it; if there’s a bigger delay, we’ll try to contact you to sort something out. If you don’t hear from us, feel free to get in touch.
